Cuba considers joining the BRICS

Cuba's Ambassador to Russia considers the possibility of joining the BRICS.
Julio Antonio Garmendia Pena, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Russian Federation, spoke about the possibility of joining BRICS.
'Cuba maintains trade relations with the countries of the association, stressing the importance of cooperation with Russia and China in various sectors of the economy. The trend towards expansion of the alliance offers the hope of achieving a multipolar world', the ambassador said.
Russia's Mir banking cards could start being used in Cuba by the end of the year, the ambassador said.

Central banks are buying gold to protect against the threat of a sovereign debt crisis.
Last week the World Gold Council noted that central banks bought 59 tonnes of gold in June.
For the first half of this year, central banks purchased 270 tonnes of gold.
The WGC noted that central banks bought 180 tonnes of gold in the second quarter.

White House lit in Gold. Think 50 Year Anniversary

The White House was lit in Gold on October 8 night.
From 1946 to 1971, nations operated under a new monetary system: the Bretton Woods Agreement.
On August 15, 1971, Nixon removed gold as the backing to the U.S. dollar.
After Nixon left the Bretton Woods system, gold went from $35 an ounce in 1971 to over $1800 today.
