ISO 20022 implementation for Fedwire Funds Service

The FederalReserve Board of Governors is seeking industry feedback by December 11 on a revised plan to implement ISO 20022 message format for the Fedwire Funds Service.
Recently, the Federal Reserve Banks announced the message specifications for the FedNow Service. While both the Fedwire Funds Service and the FedNow Service plan to use ISO 20022 messages, the implementations of the ISO 20022 standard for these services are separate initiatives.

Russia, Iran to develop alternative to SWIFT

Russia and Iran have been cooperating to connect their interbank messaging systems in order to bypass the SWIFT financial transactions network, Kazem Jalali, Ambassador of Iran to Russia, said on Thursday.
SWIFT is a messaging network that financial institutions use to securely transmit information and instructions through a standardized system of codes.
Both countries are facing severe Western sanctions, making settlements in trade through SWIFT difficult or impossible.

Iran Joins Russia in BRICS Currency Initiative

Iran is collaborating with Russia in BRICS initiatives, including developing a single currency for the bloc, according to Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali.
He highlighted Iran's active role as a new BRICS member at the Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum.
"The creation of a new single currency within the framework of the association is what Russia and Iran are working on," the diplomat stated.

Asian Clearing Union to adopt SWIFT alternative

Within the coming weeks, ACU member states plan to introduce the Iranian-developed system.
During a recent summit in Iran, the members of the Asian Clearing Union (ACU) decided to compete with the SWIFT global payment network by launching a new cross-border financial messaging system in June.
ACU members include the central banks of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Iran.
According to reports, the new, unnamed method for banking communication among ACU members was designed by the Central Bank of Iran (CBI).
Along with the top representatives from the ACU member states, the conference also included the governor of the Russian central bank, representatives from Afghanistan, and Belarus.
Last week, applications for membership in the ACU were submitted by Belarus and Mauritius.
Mohammad Reza Farzin, the governor of the CBI, disclosed that the bloc would look to expand its membership and vary the payment methods it accepts in order to support a more comprehensive de-dollarization drive.
